Basement Jack Post Wrap - There are numerous approaches to help avoid moisture damage problems at a cellar. The first rule of thumb is no dirt basements. Although these are less common in this day in age, it's good to point out that dirt flooring not just hold a large amount of moisture but can also give off a variety of gases. When constructing a cellar, make certain that you have a floor drain with a trap installed at the bottom point of the floor.
Without a floor drain, any water that's spilled inside cannot escape. Sump pumps are often used where flooding because of a high water table may be a problem. Additionally, waterproof the outside of the base walls and install a perimeter drainage system. An often overlooked problem in bathrooms is moisture that comes from humidity.
The simplest way to control humidity would be to exhaust water vapor generated in the home to the outside. Signs of high humidity include condensation on windows, pipes or other surfaces as well an overall awareness of moisture from the atmosphere, dampness, and odors. Many times, the humidity will be brought on by exposing the cellar to outside air (open windows), using wet laundry hung to dry from the cellar, keeping firewood from the cellar, or a dryer vent that exhausts indoors.
In summer, use a portable dehumidifier or air conditioning to reduce humidity. In hot, humid weather, keep cellar windows shut. The key to keeping basement humidity would be to keep them well ventilated and keep additional moisture from the cellar.
